Saying that self-control is a positive character trait is, for most of us, an exercise in stating the obvious. Scientists, psychologists and philosophers have been extoling the virtues of self-control...
The Mountain West Credit Union Foundation is always looking for opportunities to support credit unions by supporting their members. Our work is driven by the belief that supporting credit unions in meaningful ways within their communities makes all of us stronger.
To date, the Foundation has distributed over $900,000 to programs that support the professional development of credit union members, volunteers, management and staff, but one of the biggest ways we accomplish our mission is investing in the development of young leaders. As the Foundation’s Chairman, Todd Pearson, emphasized in last week’s year end review, the most important thing we can do to ensure the future success of our credit unions is to focus on supporting the next generation of leaders today.
The Brayman-Beach Scholarship is one of the ways we are supporting young leaders in Colorado.
The scholarship is named after two visionary leaders in the credit union movement, Susan J. Brayman and Carroll D. Beach, who devoted their professional careers to furthering the success of Colorado’s credit unions. Their deep commitment to furthering the credit union philosophy is exemplified in the scholarship’s purpose – to provide financial support for young, emerging leaders, and by extension, to strengthen the credit union movement as a whole.
One $5,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a Colorado credit union member exhibiting a passion for leadership and a commitment to obtaining a business degree at a four-year accredited institution.
The scholarship recipient is selected based on the applicant’s grades, professional goals, community service involvement, extracurricular activities and financial need. In addition, applicants are required to submit an essay designed to introduce them to credit union concepts and spark their thinking about effective leadership strategies might be used to serve young members.
If you are a credit union in Colorado, the Brayman-Beach Scholarship is an opportunity to offer your members a Foundation supported benefit that demonstrates commitment to your community through an investment in its young adults. After all, our young adults hold the future of the credit union movement in their hands.
The Foundation will be providing Colorado credit unions printable posters and table tents that can be posted at teller stations as a way to inform members of this opportunity. Applicants can download a scholarship application from www.mwcua.com/brayman-beach or email their request for an application to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Applications must be submitted to the Mountain West Credit Union Foundation offices located at 1009 Grant St., Denver, CO 80203. The deadline for applications is March 31st at 1:00 pm.
